Free music downloads come to asap. And don't worry about the recording industry coming after you -- it's not even illegal.
It had to happen, and this is the week. Here at asap, we're finally giving some stuff away.
Namely music.
Matthew Perpetua, the founder and curator of fluxblog, one of the Web's groundbreaking MP3 download sites, is partnering with asap to offer three songs a week for your listening pleasure. They're not only free, they're legal.
We're calling Perpetua's column "Hit Refresh," and it's an exercise in trolling through the songosphere for the tastiest nuggets. In his debut column, which you'll see Wednesday, he offers this assessment:
"Albums that are brilliant from start to finish may be relatively uncommon," he writes. "But the world is overflowing with artists with amazing songs, and the aim of this column is to present a cross section of them for you every week."
Up this week: A Frames, Nouveau Riche and the Fiery Furnaces, complete with insightful analysis on the music. Clear some space on your iPod and enjoy.
But don't procrastinate: Each set of download links will be up for only a week before the next ones appear. Hey, you can't have free forever.
