Up Down Left Right

Ratchet is getting rumble.

The next-gen version of the humorous platformer, "Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction" (rated E-10 plus, $59.99 for PlayStation 3), will support Sony's just-announced rumble feature. The catch: SIXAXIS controllers equipped with rumble will be released in Japan in November but don't come out in the U.S. until spring.

Despite its name, the brightly colored adventure game actually explores Ratchet's past, and features the usual array of silly gadgetry, like a disco ball bomb that makes enemies dance.

The "Ratchet" series was created by Insomniac Games, which built a reputation for family-friendly titles, then wiped that rep out with "Resistance: Fall of Man" (rated M, $59.99 for PlayStation 3). The PS3 launch title features gore, blood and plenty of aliens, and has remained popular among the first-person shooter crowd.

In this week's edition of "Up Down Left Right," RYAN PEARSON talks to Insomniac creative director Brian Allgeier and president Ted Price about "Ratchet" and "Resistance."
