Thursday is the National Day of Prayer, when people of all faiths ask God to listen to their wishes and worries and hopes and fears.

Even nonbelievers have options for participating. The Rational Response Squad -- an atheist group -- is calling for volunteers to pass on the prayer and donate blood instead.

"There are alternatives to silently beseeching the deity to perform miracles," the group says in a video posted to their Web site (http://www.atheistvolunteers.org/ ).

In his proclamation on the official National Day of Prayer site (http://www.ndptf.org ), President Bush mentions reflecting on the tragedy at Virginia Tech and praying for the nation's Armed Forces.

"Americans of many faiths and traditions share a common belief that God hears the prayers of His children and shows grace to those who seek Him," Bush writes.

Believers, at least of the Christian faith, also have a new place to unite online: GodTube (http://www.GodTube.com ). With its user-generated video, it's just like YouTube -- but consisting entirely of faith-friendly material.
