Bon Jovi probably won't be there. No Diddy, either.

And that's more than all right with the organizers of the annual Plug Awards. The Plug Awards offers hosannas to independent music and the culture that props it up.

And unlike the Grammys, which are decided on by an exclusive group of voters, ballots for The Plug Awards are offered online and voted on by the public. Each category offers a selection of general nominees AND, just in case it's not obscure enough for you, an "obsessive" category.

This Saturday night, nominees from categories such as Music Blog of the Year, Americana Album of the Year and Record Store of the Year, will gather at New York's Irving Plaza to take in a show hosted by David Cross and headlined by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Winners will be announced with much fanfare.
