Am I missing something? Where is the apple pie recipe in Howie Rumberg's Idiot in the Kitchen article (column?) Is this what you think people 35 and under want? To just read paragraph after paragraph after paragraph about a cooking adventure and then have no recipe???? That's a big misstep. We may want hipper food content (this aint it), but we're still going to want that recipe to try or save. Maybe we would only want that recipe and not the recipe after recipe in traditional, old-fashioned food sections, but we still want that one recipe he goes on and on about. Is it an idiot in the kitchen or on the editing desk? Worse? If he used Cunningham's or Davis's recipes, they could easily have been at the end of the article with attribution. I'm under 35 and professionally review cookbooks; that's allowed and wanted by the cookbook authors and required by the readers. Are readers supposed to jet out to the bookstore when Howie could have given them the precious recipe right at their fingertips for free? It's not enough for him to gently suggest recipes from books and then be too lazy to give them or type them in for the reader. Remember, I review cookbooks: I know it might be sheer laziness about typing in and checking recipes! I am a young, hip nationally syndicated, successful food columnist (syndicated to 800 newspapers a week by a major news service for 10 years with many fans and seven published cookbooks, all with sales over 150,000 copies each) and a daily newspaper food editor. This column and content need a lot of help.
Good luck to you on this venture.
